The names in this list come from three major sources, none of which completely agree with one another. Two are official U.S. government compilations issued approximately one year after the official cessation of hostilities, the one noting Navy and Marine deaths, the other noting Army and Army Air Forces deaths. The Navy/Marines list encompassed the whole state and listed personnel whose next-of-kin were from Louisiana, with the names and addresses of the first-named NOK. The Army/USAAF list was broken down by parish and provides rank, service number and the disposition of remains/manner of death in terms of whether killed in action, non-battle death, died of wounds, etc. The third source is a special edition of the Shreveport Journal published Sept. 3, 1945, noting only Shreveport and Bossier City soldiers killed in the conflict. Pictures of many were provided, but alas, these are too poorly represented in existing microfilm to be presented here.
This is at present only a names summary, with occasional extra information noted. Links to entries for the fallen on Find-a-Grave are incorporated. It is the goal of this compiler to add complete information from the sources noted above over time, as well as any additional information gleaned from newspapers and family sources.
The names below are noted in the form firstname, lastname, middle name/initial, source of the citation(s) and additional information as available.
If a name has no link, it means there is no known burial for this member. In that case, any and all information on this peson will be greatly appreciated by the compiler.
Updates and corrections emailed to John Andrew Prime at jprime@caddocoroner.com or japrime@bellsouth.net will be incorporated into the listing as necessary.
